Hyde collars feature the classic look of leather and the personality of fabric. Due to the pattern placement on fabric, your collar may not look exactly like what is shown.
**About real leather**
When you receive your collar, the leather will appear to be stiff. It will soften greatly with wear and use over time. Proper conditioning of the leather will aid in this process. One application of Smith's leather conditioner has been applied to help soften and protect the collar from the elements.
Leather is an organic and porous material. The leather will change over time. Veg Tan, specifically, does not go through the staining process. Meaning, veg tan leather is leather in its natural state. Because of this, veg tan leather will darken the more you use it and condition it. This is a natural process, known as patina, and it is completely normal. The rate and amount of change varies from hide to hide.
Every leather hide is unique, and reacts to the stain gin differently. The collar you receive may look a little different than in the colors shown. You may also notice scars, markings, or blemishes. I specifically choose hides with these marks, because I feel it adds character to each collar, making them unique and one of a kind. With the proper care, the integrity of your collar should last for many years. Please see the Collar Care section of the website on how to properly care for your leather collar.
